Who Will Win the Men’s ASP World Title? A Year in Review.

Mick Fanning and Gabriel Medina are still waiting to resume their world surfing title battle after turbulent surf put the Pipeline Masters on hold again.

Organisers called another lay day for the season-ending competition because of disorganised surf, strong winds and 15-foot faces at Hawaii’s iconic Pipeline break.

“The good news is that the forecast towards the end of the week has improved and is looking promising,” ASP Commissioner Kieren Perrow said.

Defending champion Fanning almost certainly needs to win the final event to pip Medina to the title.

But if the Brazilian falls in his third-round heat against local Dusty Payne, Fanning’s chances increase.

Meanwhile, 11-time world champion Kelly Slater needs both of his world title rivals to be eliminated in the next round to have any chance of winning a record 12th title.

He’ll meet Brazil’s Alejo Muniz when surf resumes, while Fanning will face France’s Jeremy Flores.
