JBay Open 2015

J-Bay Open 2015

The prestigious right hand point break J-Bay event made it on the World Tour stop this year. This event is a classic and gives certain surfers a unique chance to show off their skills.

The event is called off today, but the swell is said to pick up soon. Click here for the J-Bay Heat Sheet.

EVENT WINDOW: July 8 – 19, 2015
LOCATION: Kouga, Eastern Cape, South Africa
TIME DIFFERENCE: GMT +2
COORDINATES: 34°3′0″S 24°55′0″E

Defending Champion: Mick Fanning (AUS)

THE WAVE: Unknown to most who saw the film, Hynson and August caught a lot more rides at Jeffreys than they did at the “perfect” break of St. Francis Bay. Jeffreys is known for a quality righthand pointbreak, one of the best in the world, that pumps with unparalleled consistency. Smooth barrels can break as long as 300 meters before the wave closes out. J-Bay has fast, powerful and hollow rides on offer in droves.

CHAMPIONSHIP TOUR HISTORY: After a two-year hiatus from the CT, Jeffreys bay found itself back on the elite Tour in 2014. Jordy Smith(ZAF) has claimed home-break advantage, winning the event back-to-back in 2010 and 2011. Smith, now the lone South African on Tour, will face the added pressure to please the crowd on the beach. Last year, he wowed fans and judges alike coming out of the gates, earning a near-perfect 19.80 heat total in Round 1, but bowed out in Round 3.

2011: Jordy Smith (ZAF)
