How to Create a Healthy Morning Routine

How you get started in the morning is so important because it really sets the stage for the rest of your day. Many people wake up to their alarm, drag themselves out of bed, and rush around while drinking their coffee before running out the door on the way to work, and this can set a rushed and stressful pace for the day.

Meditation for a Healthy Morning Routine

A morning routine is basically a set of practices that you do each morning upon waking up with the purpose of easing into your day and taking some time for yourself.
Your routine doesn’t have to be long or complicated- it can be whatever feels right for you, so long as it makes you feel good and starts your day off right.

To create a morning routine that works for you, ask yourself the following questions.
How would I like to start my day?
How can I incorporate this in a way that fits my life/schedule?

Some great morning practices ideas include

Meditation. People are often scared off by meditation, but it can be as simple as sitting for 5-10 minutes and focusing on your breathing. When thoughts arise, simply let them go and come back to your breath. Don’t worry about having a perfectly still mind- this is a nearly impossible feat for almost all of us! Just by bringing awareness to your breath, you are meditating.

Gratitude. Rather than jumping out of bed when your alarm goes off or hitting the snooze button, spend the first few moments of your day lying in bed and giving thanks for the blessings in your life. It can something as small as your comfortable pillow and soft sheets or as significant as your family and loved ones- whatever puts a smile on your face and feels truly good to think about.

Lemon water. Drinking a large glass of water with fresh squeezed lemon juice is a healthy way to start the day. Lemon water is wonderful for your liver and helps to flush toxins out of your body. It is also very refreshing and can help to make you feel more awake in the morning.

Breakfast al fresco. Eating breakfast or having your morning tea or coffee outside will instantly boost your mood. Fresh air, sunshine, and a delicious healthy breakfast make for a happy morning.

Remember, your morning routine is meant to feel fun and right for you. Whether you have five minutes, or two hours, there is always something you can do to create a morning routine that will set the foundation for your day.
